Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How does the Nourish the Children initiative work?

  2. What has this website to do with Nourish the Children and the Fiji Project?
VitaMeal donations currently reach 118 countries around the world. This website was specifically created for the Fiji project in order to solicit VitaMeal donations that can be allocated to Fiji by Nourish the Children.

  3. Is Nourish the Children a for-profit company?
Nourish the Children is not a company, it is an initiative. It is an initiative of Nu Skin which has been established to help undernourished and malnourished children throughout the world.

  4. How is the Nourish the Children initiative different from other initiatives?
Nu Skin does not accept monetary or cash donations with their Nourish the Children initiative. Individuals can only donate VitaMeal that will be fed to children. None of the food donation goes toward administration, advertising, or distribution costs but the price of the food does include company overhead. Administration, advertising, and distribution costs are covered by Nu Skin and their distribution partners, such as, Feed The Children.

  5. Why is VitaMeal so special?
VitaMeal is formulated especially for malnourished and undernourished children. VitaMeal is fortified with 25 essential vitamins and minerals, having a complete balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat and fibre.

  6. How does Nu Skin's Automatic Delivery Program (ADR) work?
The ADR is intended to help agencies feed children on a monthly basis by planning the distribution of VitaMeal in advance. The products purchased on a recurring basis are then voluntarily donated by the purchasers and delivered to a public charity for distribution to those in need. Participants can cancel their ADR at any time.

  7. Who manufactures VitaMeal and where is it manufactured?
All of the VitaMeal products are currently manufactured by Nu Skin in one of three VitaMeal manufacturing plants. These manufacturing plants are in Provo (USA), Jixi (China), and Malawi (Africa). The VitaMeal food supplied to Fiji is transported from Provo in the USA.

  8. How does VitaMeal reach Fiji and how is it distributed in Fiji?
Nu Skin has sponsored the shipping of VitaMeal from the USA to Auckland, New Zealand. The Tappoo Group of Companies in Fiji sponsor the shipment of VitaMeal from Auckland to Suva, Fiji where they are received by the Fiji Ministry of Health who distribute the VitaMeal to children all over Fiji through school-based feeding programmes.

  9. What is the cycle of malnutrition to which the management of the Nourish the Children® initiative keep referring and how does the initiative help correct the problem?
The cycle of malnutrition is a graphically illustrated circle that shows the depth of the problem of malnourishment. Essentially, a child who becomes malnourished suffers from vitamin and mineral deficiencies. These deficiencies lead to bouts of infection and diarrhoea which, in turn, lead to even more severe malnutrition. By offering a highly dense, nutritious product, that is more easily digestible we can break the vicious cycle of malnourishment.

  10. How can you ensure that the food donated and the program being implemented will really help break the cycle of malnutrition?
There are numerous sources of clinical evidence that already demonstrate that adequate nutrition, including adequate provision of vitamins and minerals, are the solution to this problem. With help from partner relief agencies, Nu Skin Enterprises specifically tracks the donations of VitaMeal® food to gather its own evidence. This data is valuable in documenting improvements in the overall health of the students, and in determining ways in which we can continue to enhance our product offering.

  11. How does Nourish the Children select the charities that receive its products and how do you know the products ever arrive at the final destination?
Nu Skin only partners with organizations that have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with local governments and to get food to those with real needs. Through Nourish the Children's unique "report back" agreements with its humanitarian relief partners, the company can help ensure that the food donated will be delivered to those in need. Most reports include pictures of food containers at the destination and children eating the food, as well as an accounting of the number of children helped and a written report from the relief organizations.

  12. Have the appropriate clergy inspected the foods and the packaging to ensure compliance under various religious codes?
Yes. Nu Skin has consulted with appropriate clergy to ensure the products are Kosher and Halal certified.
